What We Do

Our Core Services

How It Works

Our Repair Process

Every watch that comes through our door follows the same careful, transparent process — so you always know what to expect.

1

Initial Assessment

We examine your watch thoroughly and document its current condition, identifying any visible wear, damage, or issues with the movement. You receive a clear written summary before any work begins.

2

Quote & Approval

Based on the assessment, we provide a detailed quote outlining exactly what the service involves and what it will cost. Nothing proceeds without your explicit approval.

3

Service & Repair

Our technicians perform the agreed-upon work using appropriate tools and lubricants for your specific movement. We source genuine or quality-equivalent parts where replacements are required.

4

Quality Check

Once service is complete, the watch is tested for accuracy, function, and — where applicable — water resistance. We do not consider a job done until it meets our internal standards.

5

Collection & Care Notes

You collect your watch along with a summary of the work performed and guidance on care going forward. We're available to answer any questions at this stage or afterward.

Know Your Watch

Test Your Knowledge

Three short quizzes to help you understand your watch better — from maintenance habits to mechanical basics.

How well do you maintain your watch?

1. How often do you have your mechanical watch professionally serviced?

2. How do you store your watch when not wearing it?

3. Do you avoid exposing your watch to strong magnetic fields?

4. How do you clean your watch?

Is your watch due for a service?

1. When was your watch last professionally serviced?

2. Is your watch running noticeably fast or slow?

3. Do you notice any fogging, moisture, or condensation under the crystal?

4. Does the crown or any pusher feel stiff, scratchy, or inconsistent?

Mechanical vs Quartz — what do you know?

1. What powers a mechanical watch?

2. Which type of movement is generally more accurate in daily timekeeping?

3. How does an automatic (self-winding) watch wind itself?

4. Which component regulates the timekeeping in a mechanical movement?

5. Approximately how often should a mechanical watch movement be serviced?

Customer Reviews

★★★★★

"I brought in my grandfather's pocket watch, which had not run in years. The technician explained everything clearly before touching it, and the watch now runs beautifully. I appreciated the honesty throughout."

★★★★★

"Battery replacement was quick, and they inspected the seals as part of the service. I was not expecting that level of thoroughness for a simple battery swap. Good value."

Linda P.
Warren, MI
★★★★★

"The polishing on my Seiko was done conservatively, exactly as I requested. They did not over-polish and preserved the satin finish on the sides. Clearly they know what they're doing."

David K.
Dearborn, MI
★★★★★

"My dive watch had failed its pressure test at another shop. Top Watch Repair found a damaged crown tube, replaced it, and re-tested successfully. I will not go anywhere else."

James T.
Grosse Pointe, MI
★★★★☆

"Solid service, reasonable turnaround time, and the technician was patient with my questions. The quote was fair and there were no unexpected charges at pickup."

Sarah N.
Royal Oak, MI
★★★★★

"I had a vintage Omega that needed a full service. They sourced the correct lubricants and did not rush the job. When I picked it up, it was running within COSC tolerances. Excellent work."

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Turnaround times vary depending on the type of service and parts availability. A straightforward battery replacement or regulation is usually completed same day or within 24 hours. A full movement service typically takes 1–2 weeks. If parts need to be sourced, we will advise you on the expected timeline before work begins.
Walk-ins are welcome during business hours. If you have a specific time in mind or are traveling from further away, we recommend calling ahead to ensure a technician will be available to conduct the initial assessment on your arrival.
We have experience with a wide range of brands and movements, including vintage and higher-end timepieces. If a service falls outside our current capabilities, we will tell you clearly and can suggest appropriate alternatives rather than attempting work we are not qualified to perform.
If we assess the watch and determine that repair is not viable, we will explain the reasons and return the watch to you. Any assessment fee, if applicable, will be communicated upfront before examination begins. We do not charge for work that was not performed.
Absolutely. The majority of our customers bring in watches purchased at other retailers, online, or through inheritance. The origin of the watch does not affect our willingness to assess and service it.
That is exactly what the initial assessment is for. You do not need to diagnose the problem yourself — bring the watch in and describe what you have noticed. Our technicians will examine it, explain their findings in plain language, and recommend only what is genuinely necessary.
