Correct cell type, gasket inspection included, and no unnecessary upselling. A straightforward service done properly.
For most quartz watch owners, a flat battery is the most common maintenance event they'll encounter. It can appear straightforward — and in terms of the procedure itself, it often is. What matters is that the job is done correctly, and this is where professional service makes a genuine difference.
The main concern is not the battery cell itself but the sealing that surrounds the case back. Most quartz watches have at least one gasket that creates a water-resistant seal between the case back and the case body. Every time that case back is removed, that gasket is potentially disturbed. An improperly seated or overly compressed gasket — or one that is simply old and has hardened — is one of the most common causes of water ingress in quartz watches after a battery service.
We include a visual gasket inspection with every battery replacement at no additional cost. If a gasket shows signs of hardening, cracking, or damage, we will let you know and advise on replacement before reassembly.
Watch batteries are not interchangeable by voltage alone. Movements are designed for specific cell dimensions and discharge characteristics. Using an incorrect cell — even one with the same voltage — can affect timekeeping accuracy, accelerate battery drain, and in rare cases cause issues with the movement's circuit board over time.
We identify the correct replacement cell for your specific movement and use a quality cell from a reputable manufacturer. We do not substitute cheaper generic cells as a matter of course.
Most quartz watch batteries last between two and five years, depending on the movement type, functions (chronograph, backlight, multiple time zones), and how often certain features are used. Some high-end quartz movements are designed to last seven to ten years on a single cell.
If your watch has stopped, a flat battery is the most likely cause — but it is worth having the watch checked rather than assuming, especially if the watch stopped unusually quickly relative to the expected battery life. A battery that drains faster than it should may indicate a circuit issue within the movement.
Battery replacement is typically completed while you wait or within a few hours, depending on the case design and how busy the workshop is. If you come in without an appointment, a technician will assess the watch on arrival and give you an estimated time before starting.
After the battery is replaced and the case is reassembled, we set the time and confirm that all functions are operating correctly before handing the watch back to you.
We identify the caliber to ensure the correct replacement cell is used.
The case back is removed carefully and the gasket is inspected for condition and seating.
The correct replacement cell is installed. The movement is checked to confirm it restarts correctly.
The case is closed with the gasket correctly seated. Time is set and all functions tested.
Walk-ins welcome. Battery replacements are often completed same day.
